Overview
Professor of Neurology and Chair of the School of Public Health at Imperial College London (ICL) and Honorary Consultant at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust (ICHT), Professor Middleton studied medicine and trained in neurology at Louis Pasteur University (Strasbourg, France). After becoming a neurology researcher at Presbyterian Hospital and a visiting assistant professor at Columbia University in New York, he then founded and became the first President of the US-funded Cyprus Institute of Neurology.
Subsequently, Prof. Middleton held the position of Vice President of Translational Medicine and Genetics at GSK-R&D, before joining Imperial. Over the years, he served on several executive and advisory scientific committees (national, European, and international). He is the Principal Investigator of the Chariot registry of over 40,000 volunteers for research studies on Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related diseases, of the industry-funded Chariot PRO prospective longitudinal study on preclinical Alzheimer’s disease, of the ICHT site of the Met-FINGER RCT, and the Imperial AD RIDDLE site, and co-investigator of the large-scale e-FINGER PRINT study. Additionally, he makes significant contributions as a lead investigator in the UK for three Alzheimer’s disease trials, and is the author of 245 manuscripts.
